About IPOB
Who are the Indigenous People of Biafra?
IPOB — the Indigenous People of Biafra — is a global movement advocating for the self-determination of the Igbo people and other indigenous nationalities of Biafra through peaceful, lawful, and internationally recognised means.
Founded under the leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, IPOB operates in over 80 countries worldwide, drawing together Biafrans in diaspora and their allies in a shared commitment to justice, identity, and the right of peoples to determine their own political future.
IPOB's advocacy is firmly grounded in international law, including the United Nations Charter, the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights, and the universally recognised principle of the self-determination of peoples.

History & Heritage
A People, A History, A Cause
The Nigerian-Biafran War 1967–1970
From 1967 to 1970, the Republic of Biafra — declared by the Eastern Region of Nigeria — fought for independence. The war resulted in one of the most devastating humanitarian crises of the 20th century, with an estimated 3.5 million Biafrans losing their lives to conflict, famine, and disease.
A Cause Unfinished 1970–2012
Following the war, the aspiration for Biafran self-determination persisted among the Igbo people and allied groups. Decades of advocacy, remembrance, and community organising kept the flame of Biafran identity alive across the diaspora.
IPOB is Founded 2012
The Indigenous People of Biafra was formally constituted under the leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, establishing a structured, internationally-oriented movement pursuing Biafran restoration through peaceful, diplomatic, and internationally recognised channels.
Global Expansion 2012–Present
IPOB has grown into one of the largest diaspora advocacy movements in Africa, with chapters established across more than 80 countries — including right here in the Kingdom of Eswatini.

IPOB Eswatini Chapter conducts all its activities peacefully, lawfully, and in full accordance with the laws of the Kingdom of Eswatini. We do not engage in violence, intimidation, threats, or unlawful conduct of any kind.
We are a community of Biafrans and friends of Biafra committed to raising awareness of the Biafran cause through entirely legitimate and peaceful means. We reject violence, hate speech, and any form of unlawful action in the strongest possible terms.
All official communications from IPOB Eswatini Chapter are issued through authorised representatives only. Any communication not issued through verified chapter channels should not be attributed to the chapter.
